Its All Fun and Games

...until someone loses an eye.

How many times have you been reprimanded with this comment by your mother only to laugh it off and continue with your fun and games? Well, I did too. Except for today it just about came true for me. It seems that the state of Kentucky is bound and determined for me to lose an eye and today its wish almost came true (for the second time).

F Channel
Kate and I were getting some supplies from the storage shed for the house we are currently working on. I had grabbed a bundle of F Channel which comes in 10 foot long sections and is used to put up Soffit. Kate grabbed the last piece we needed and then we headed out to the truck. As I was walking, Kate decided to lightly poke me with her piece and I retaliated by turning so that the end of my bundle knocked into her side. The next thing I know I am receiving a mighty whack to the face with the end of a piece of F Channel. I just remember dropping my bundle and hearing one of the other crew leaders yell "Sweet Jesus!". I grabbed my eye where the piece had hit and hoped for the second time in the past year that I still had a functional eyeball.  Luckily, after a few minutes the fuzziness and stars in my vision went away and I was left with just a swollen eye which by the end of the day had turned into a decent shiner. To top it off, the injury happened to my good eye instead of the one that had already taken a beating from the Dremel in November.

The Damage
Now in Kate's defense, she didn't mean to hit me in the eye or as hard as she did. As far as we can tell, the piece of F Channel because it is so long had a whip like effect when she swung it at me and the end got going a lot faster than she intended. She did feel really bad and apologized quite profusely. Although by the end of the day, she jokingly admitted the real reason she did it is because its my last week in Housing as I will be moving up to Camp Shawnee this weekend for the duration of my time in Kentucky. She told me its like a gang. You're in it for life and if you try and get out than you get beaten up.

I am thankful that I somehow managed to narrowly escape with both my eyeballs still intact. However, there still are a few days left. I'll keep you updated.
